Back It Up
Been getting into Dam-Funk lately and was looking around YouTube for some stuff he played at this set in New York, this tune came up. Pretty solid song, I wish that I knew more about early 80's Funk. I guess not being born yet doesn't help your ability to absorb the music.

For The Alcoholic In All Of Us
When I first saw this video, I watched it maybe 2-3 times in a row, and then everyday for a couple of days. Just something about the song and the imagery is really deep, just a really well shot video, even though the male vocals are difficult to relate to the female actress. Anyways, Massive Attack definitely one my favorite groups of all time, and this track holds a special place in my heart.
I read about the vocalist on this track, apparently he used to work at the University of Chicago and would perform on the weekends. When it was discovered that he was a successful singer (he mostly performed in the UK, probably due to the popularity of American soul music in the UK in the 80's/90's) he was fired. So that sucks.
Somehow Master P Always Knows What I'm Thinking
This beat/song has been redone way too many times, but I like this version a hell of a lot better than "I Need Drugs". Lil' Romeo lost all of his street cred when he decided to act in a Nickelodeon show. You don't go from Nickelodeon to BET's 106 & Park. Apparently he plays basketball for USC, thats legit. Maybe if I see him in the tournament this March he'll get more respect from me.
Greg Wilson - Teenage DJ
Greg Wilson was one of the first DJ's in the UK to use two turntables simultaneously. He only recently had an Essential Mix (which essentially places you in the canon of DJ's) and killed it. I highly suggest you download it. This is one of my favorite parts of the mix, "Gottta Keep Workin' It", a Missy Elliot mashup:

If Diplo Says He's A Genius Then It Must Be True
Diplo just posted this video up on the Mad Decent blog. He says that the more you listen the more you recognize that Bangs is a genius, we'll see about that. But for now, the beat and the chorus of this song sure do stick in your head, even though the guys accent is hilariously strong. Nothing a little autotune can't fix. Also I love all the shit in the background, the Cadillac that doesn't actually exist (I don't think they ever built one), and the map of Africa with Sudan filled in so you know where he's from.

Just Because Its a Cover Doesn't Mean Its Bad
I really like this version of "Sweet Jane" by the Cowboy Junkies, has a nice 90's vibe to it, and is just nice and relaxed.
Roll Deep - Stampers
The beat on this song is crazy. I don't know how you can listen to this song and not nod your head, its like "Break Ya' Neck" but better, it just bounces. I've only heard of Wiley (the producer for this song) through some of the BBC 1Xtra shows I listen to (Essential Mix, Annie Mac, Marie Ann Hobbs, Giles Peterson), but man I've been missing out.

Guns Don't Kill People, Lazers Do
I feel like I've neglected grime, no longer, I'm getting into it deep.
Is The XX the Interpol of 2009?
I would say yes. I can see myself listening to this album as much as I've listened to "Turn on the Bright Lights". It is so good.

RIP Dilla
I love this song, so relaxed, it just grooves. Here is the instrumental which I think is wonderful too. Listening to Dam Funk recently makes me appreciate the instrumentals more.

Pretty Good Follow Up to Day n' Night
I feel like he's hyped way too much. He's not that great of a rapper, when I first heard Day n' Night I really connected with the lyrics, but its all about being a loner. So this hype is pretty ironic. The beat for this song is by one of my new favorite artists: Nosaj Thing.
